The Call of the Wild-GO A-HUNTING & COME A-GATHERING!

The sound of beating drums is reverberating around the hills, caves and valleys of the West Coast!

 Around the campfires at night the call is being heard and the huntsmen and fisherfolk are readying themselves to go a-hunting and come a-gathering for the 24^th Hokitika Wildfoods Festival!!

Already the bounty is building up with foods from mother nature to tickle your tastebuds. Deep fried locusts, huhu grubs pickled and BBQ’d, huhu beetles and grasshoppers are all being trapped and prepared especially for you.

From the freshwater streams and lakes, BBQ’d  pukeko, gamebird salami, smoked trout and salmon will be offered to you by NZ Fish and Game on this unique occasion absolutely free. You can’t get better value than this!

Sparkling West Coast Whitebait, Venison, Wild Boar and Mutton birds are all jostling for space at the festival awaiting your hungry lips and rumbling tummies.

Word around the campfire is that the Jax Hamilton will be serving her native Caribbean style hot and spicy funky food. Check out the zany Masterchef finalist as she works her magic!

Out of the clear blue West Coast sky at 11.30am will come the roar of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Red Checker Squadron! Those incredible men in their flying machines will send the wild beasts scampering for shelter as you marvel at this spectacular sight!

We haven’t forgotten your desire for entertainment while you enjoy the carnival atmosphere and colourful fancy-dressed antics of your fellow festival goers. We bring you New Zealand’s Got Talent finalists Dudly Fairbrass and Evan Stinton!!!

Hokitika has also got talent and you’ll be treated to the world famous Kokatahi Band, Westland District Brass and the Westland high School’s Kapa haka performances.
