Waste Management Plan

Westland District Council adopted a Waste Management Plan in 2002. This is a living document and Council will ensure that the provisions made in the Plan continue to be appropriate for the current situation. There have been rapid changes and significant growth since the Plan was adopted. Experience with closure and redesign of waste disposal sites has shown areas where future works could do things differently.

The Plan will be subject to review every 5 years or earlier if it was considered necessary or beneficial. Any amendments to the Plan must be made through the Special Consultative Procedure set out in the Local Government Act 2002.

The Westland District Solid Waste Management Plan adopts the New Zealand Waste Strategy (2002) where it is appropriate for Westland. A West Coast Regional Waste Strategy was developed in 2004, in association with the Ministry for the Environment.
