How to Login

To view information about your own use of the Library, select Borrower login, then enter:

  1. your borrower number (on back of your card)
  2. your Password/PIN (if you do not yet have one, phone the library staff now!)
  3. Click Login
  4. Here you can check if your Borrower Information is correct – Email Us to update your details if necessary.

Return to the Catalogue home page (Click: Home) to Logout! when you have finished.
NOTE:
Please use our online buttons rather than your ‘Enter’ key or browser ‘Back’ and ‘Forward’ buttons.

Searching the Catalogue

For Quick Searching, use Easy Search
1. enter your search word/s #
2. select either Keyword (searches all fields), Title, Author, Subject, Classification (Dewey No.) Series Title
3. Press Enter on your keyboard OR use one of the three types of Easy search: All words, Any word or Title-exact phrase
4. To see more information about the book you’re interested in, Click on the Title of the book
5. Click on Search Results to go back, or
6. Refine your search by returning to the Easy search page without losing what you initially entered.
For extended search criteria use Advanced search - this enables you to do multi-field searches
# ‘Truncated’ searches are useful too – try using this type of search when you’re not sure how a word is spelled, or what specific words are used – in a title, for example.
Type in what you remember of the word followed by the * symbol (shift key + 8) on your Keyboard.
E.g. Child* will include words such as childhood, children and childbirth in your search.

Search Terms Explained

After selecting one of the above search types (‘Easy’ or ‘Advanced’), enter your search word/s then nominate one of the following options by which to narrow your path:
Keyword searches all fields, i.e. title, author and subject
Title Type only the keywords of the title you’re searching, i.e. omit words like: the, of, and, a, is –these are called ‘stop’ words.
Author Enter the surname, or full name, of the author. E.g. ‘Gregory’ or ‘Philippa Gregory’,
Subject Find out what we have in our catalogue on a subject of your choice, e.g. New Zealand Birds
Classification If you know the number of the book you’re looking for, search using this option. E.g. 956.1
Series Title Use this option if you would like to check the titles in a particular series.
E.g. ‘Conclave of Shadows’ or ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’

renewing

Renewing Online

Go to the Online Catalogue:
  1. Login
  2. Select Borrower Information
  3. Click View issues (if you don’t see these words, don’t panic - you may not have any books issued on your card!).
  4. Click in the box/es of the Items you would like to renew
  5. Click Renew Selected Items which then appears at the bottom of the page. The due date will be extended and a message will appear (in red) which tells you the item/s cannot be renewed because it was renewed or issued ‘today’.
  6. Click OK
  7. You will arrive back at ‘Your Borrower Record’. Click OK at the top of the page
  8. Click Home
  9. Click Logout!

reserving

Reserving Online

NOTE:
A $1 charge will be added to your account when reserving a book
. No reserve charge for children’s books.
Currently, you can reserve items online, successfully, via two alternatives:

A.

  1. Login
  2. Search for the item you wish to reserve
  3. Click on the Title of the item you wish to reserve
  4. Select Reserve This Title
  5. Click Place Reserve
  6. Click OK

B.

  1. Search for the item/s by clicking on Easy Search or Advanced Search on the Catalogue page(NOTE: you don’t need to be logged in as a borrower at this stage)
  2. Check to verify if there is a copy on the shelf – (you cannot reserve an item/s already on the shelf).
  3. Select each item you require by clicking in the selection box next to it
  4. Scroll down and tick the Add selected items to reserves list box
  5. Click the Add button
  6. Select Process reserves list - at either the top or bottom of the page
  7. Enter your borrower details
  8. Select – Place Reserve
  9. OK

Remember to Logout! on the Catalogue home page when you have finished using your account.
